Anti Government, Pro Democracy

14 08 2008

Many Americans feel betrayed by their government, our government. I recently met a gentleman at a coffee shop who said he was; Anti-Government and Pro-Democracy. He went into a complete tirade of all the things that are wrong with the government; the typical nightly news events. You know; social security, illegal aliens, over regulation, homosexual marriage, corporate corruption, SPAM, Identity Theft, black-outs, fuel prices; on and on and on. My gosh, I was beginning to actually feel bad that I am an American. I mean all the stuff he mentioned did have a little validity to it. Even though he blew each issue out of proportion completely. I said to him that I am Anti-Hypocrisy and Pro-government. He asked what is the difference?

We got into a lengthy discussion at that point and I explained to him that we are the government and if there was something wrong with it, then in fact he needed to buy a mirror so he could see who is really to blame. He started to get a bit hostile and told me we do not own the government anymore, it is now so large it tries to control every aspect of our lives; he launched into another tirade. This time he talked about; legalizing certain drugs, FCC control of his TV set, Political Correctness in the schools, seat belt and helmet laws, standing in lines at airports, right to shoot someone who tries to steal from you; on and on he went. I mean really another 15-minutes ensued. Patiently taking in all his complaints about the over litigation and trampling of civil rights and freedoms.

We got into another lengthy discussion/debate about whose fault all that might be? In unison this time we said; “look in the mirror.” You see we own the government and if it gets out of control or starts to impede our freedoms, basic civil rights, then look no further as to whom to blame. We all vote? We some of us anyway; Iraq had a better turnout this time around. Our government system is being abused no doubt, by who? By us, that’s who. Every government worker comes from our population; we are not yet in an era of organic robots doing all the work; yet? Every lawmaker comes from the population; we pick em’ they do not pick themselves.

Everyone should be pro-government. If you are anti-government and the government is made up of us. That means you too, don’t try to get out of it; then in fact if you are anti-government you are in fact anti-you. So if you think you suck; well you are right and until you change your opinion, there is nothing much I can do for you. Stop being a hypocrite. Live and let live; develop a little sense of responsibility in that mind of yours. It is a great design and it is a terrible thing to waste. Speak up silent majority. This is your conscious talking. Can you hear me now? Drop the hypocrisy in your own life and vote with what’s left of your mind. If you surrender your mind to the TV set and keep having temper tantrums about the government; then do it in front of a mirror so you can see how silly you look. Thanks for listening and think on this; if you still can; you silly human.

Mini Skirts To Church?

12 08 2008

Have you noticed that many of the new churches today allow their congregation to wear pretty much what ever they want to church? Even some of the pastors wear Hawaiian shirts instead of suits and ties. Some members might arrive wearing jeans with holes in them and flip-flops. Others might be sporting t-shirts with that have controversial statements on them. Would Jesus approve?

I used to attend this church back in my hometown that had an unspoken dress code that didn’t allow the women to wear any long pants to church. Only dresses and skirts that fell far below the knee. The men only wore dress pants and shirts, or suits with a tie. I really liked this church, but I was finding that trying to get ready to go was really tough for me because somehow I could never put together the right clothes! I normally never wore dresses that length so my selection was difficult at times unfortunately, even though I did specifically buy the clothes just to wear to church. Okay I’m not a fashion model or anything, but I just wanted to fit in!

I admit, maybe it seems like not dressing up might somehow be disrespecting the Church and maybe even God himself. I have thought about that, but I really think that there has to be a happy medium somewhere. If you’re going to attend a church, it seems right or should I say “proper” to dress in a way that would be pleasing to Jesus. Imagine him sitting in a pew next to you. Wouldn’t that really bring the appropriate attire issue into perspective? But my theory is as long as you dress respectfully and you are there to learn the good word of God, then it’s what is in your heart that really matters.

Are There Any Cheap Hotels in New York?

10 08 2008

I grew up in New York and then I moved away. Now when I go back to visit I am always on the look out for cheap hotels in New York. I like to bring my daughters there to show them where Mommy and Daddy grew up. It is fun to take them to see Broadway shows and experience the city. That in itself is incredibly expensive. The best hotel deals can only be found with careful research and planning. In cases like this a travel agent can sometimes be a big help. Calling hotels directly is also a good idea.

When you are planning that big trip to New York and you need to find cheap hotels in New York it is important to have as much advanced notice as possible. Hotels like having rooms booked months in advance and they will usually offer better rates to those who plan ahead. For most people this trip is not an everyday trip and they will be able to book early. If you have waited until the last minute then calling around to different hotels may get you a last minute booking rate. Look at the internet for help with rates as well.

Boxer Dogs

9 08 2008

One of the most amazing breeds that one can get is a boxer. The funny thing is that no matter who you are you know what a boxer looks like when you hear it. The boxer dog is a breed that has a fabulous history. Over time the boxer dog has been used as a companion, a guard dog and even a working dog which makes them quite a well rounded breed. The boxer dog is a highly muscular dog with a clean and hard build. This dog breed is very alert, active, strong and agile.

For those of you that live in warmer areas the boxer dog is great with its short, shiny and smooth coat. For those of you with children this may be a fantastic choice of breed as well. A boxer dog is known for its temperament being patient and highly playful making him good to be around children. As for protection the boxer dog is known for its curiosity and fearlessness.

The boxer dog is a highly loyal, very affectionate and extremely dignified dog. I can honestly say when I think of a boxer dog only good traits come to mind. Out of all of the boxer dogs that I have seen it has to be the brindle that catches my eye the most. The other thing that I like about the boxer dog’s appearance is the short snout and large jowls. How could you not fall in love with that right off the bat.

The size of the boxer dog is one that can fit into most people’s lives. Considered a medium dog breed this dog is about two feet high making it a good option for people who have enough room for more than a small breed but not enough for a hulking monster of a breed. Yes, the boxer dog is elegant and beautiful and should be given a look when in the market for a new dog or puppy.

How Important is Knowledge Management for Businesses?

8 08 2008

Knowledge is a philosophical concept defined by Plato as a belief supported by an account or an explanation (Blair, 2002). Under the context of knowledge-view of an organization, the definition suggests that knowledge comes from firm’s increased ability to make use and sense of available information to create value for the shareholders (Leiponen, 2006). There has been a significant growth in the knowledge-based school of thought, which suggests that generating and retention of knowledge can have positive effects on the firm’s performance (Di Mattia & Scott, 1999). To manage this intangible asset to leverage firms for benefits is considered to be its core capability. Knowledge management (KM) has been aimed at capturing, integrating and using existing organizational knowledge and consequently creating a knowledge asset that can be a source of sustained competitive advantage in the long run (Brooking, 1999; Havens & Knapp, 1999). The revolution in the KM came with the rise of technology and there has been a misconception of linking IT with KM although it just facilitates the process (Papers4you.com, 2006).

The literature has divided knowledge into two major categories depending upon its nature to be codified for the use in a KM system. The structured and systematic knowledge that can be described in formal language and easily communicated and shared through formal means qualify for the explicit knowledge type (Elizabeth, 2001). It has been established that such knowledge is easy to codify in the form of databases and is seen as a base resource because of its inherent nature of easy imitation by other organizations. The other form of knowledge which has gained tremendous importance is the automatic collective behavior and is called tacit knowledge (Richard et al, 2001). Tacit knowledge, according to Sajjad et al (2005), comprises of mental models, values, beliefs, assumptions and perceptions which are deeply entranced into the intellectual capital of an organization. It has been suggested that tacit knowledge is faced with an apparent dichotomy i.e. the feature of inimitability that make it a source of sustained competitive advantage also makes it hard to capture and share within the organization to gain the potential benefits.

Therefore it can be concluded that the elusive asset of knowledge, where provides an organization with capability to undermine competition also proves to be a challenge to leverage itself (Papers4you.com, 2006). Any organization should not only look at the ‘best practices’ in the field but should customize each approach to its own unique culture and requirements to be able to successfully use KM.

Some Support Talat and Some Do Not

7 08 2008

Efforts to solve the Cyprus issue are being evaluated in different ways in Turkey. While the Turkish Government supports the Turkish Government supports the Turkish Cypriot President Talat’s efforts, the main opposition party (CHP) has criticized Talat after a long period. Orders to the ambassadors from Babacan Turkey’s Minister of foreign Affairs Ali Babacan emphasized that “As part of the UN”S established parameters they (Turkey) will continue to support the efforts to find and extensive solution to the Cyprus issue.” In his speech during the opening of the Ambassador’s Conference on 15th July at the Bilkent Hotel in Ankara, Babacan touched on the Cyprus issue when he commented that providing the Turkish Cypriots security and supporting its economy while maintaining the balance and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean are the two main strategic targets of Turkey’s Cyprus politics. “Sacrifices being wasted” Meanwhile, the main opposition party GHP’s leader, Deniz Baykal, stated that President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot President Demetris Ghristofias have “come to an agreement concerning the future of a united Cyprus’s single sovereignty and single citizenship” and supported that “There can only be one conclusion of such an agreement; this means that Northern Cyprus will be annexed to the Greek Cypriot authority and the Cyprus Turkish citizens will be put under the Greek authority and reduced to a minority status.” His evaluation of the latest developments in Cyprus was made during his party’s group meeting in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, when he also said: “Single sovereignty, whose sovereignty? Whose sovereignty in single government, North Cyprus’ sovereignty? What will happen to the TRNC, and Turkish Cypriot citizens when sovereignty and citizenship reduces to one? If this happens all the soldiers will leave and the Guarantor Agreement will not be valid.” “Single sovereignty, whose sovereignty?” The party leader continued to say: “This situation will end all the advantages gained from the self-sacrifices of the Turkish nation made since 1974 in one go, and Turkey’s important, strategic main supply road will be surrounded.” Baykal stated that Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs do not say a word concerning this issue and that this is very sad, because this agreement is 100 percent contradictory to the Cyprus Politics’ basis revealed in the Nationals Security Council on April 24th, 2008. There were no statements from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs on this issue he said. “The tensions and political discussions can be solved. However our privileges in international relations which will be lost can not be returned. I invite everyone to be sensitive in this matter,” said CHP’s Chairman Baykal who supported that the period’s most important historical developments took place in Cyprus but that the media and the public authorities do not show an interest in this at all.

Tips for Launching Your Own Business

7 08 2008

This November marks my two-year anniversary of starting my own human resources consulting business. As I look back on the years, I am amazed at what I accomplished and learned. If you are thinking about starting a business, read on!

I always dreamed about having my own business, talked to friends about it, and imagined how it might be. But it was only after two people in my life gave me a push, that I started doing instead of dreaming. First, my former boss said to me, when we were both thinking about moving on, “I never looked for a job, I always went out and created my own.” Given her advice, I hired a business coach to help me map out my next career steps. My coach saw my entrepreneurial spirit and encouraged me to start a business. So I moved from dreaming to doing.

The first few months of my business I spent setting up a legal structure, registering the business name, implementing an easy accounting system, setting up a business checking account, establishing a line of credit and obtaining business insurance. Each item was time consuming but not difficult. The more difficult work was writing my business plan and marketing plan. I talked to professional colleagues and volunteers at the Small Business Administration and SCORE, and read books on marketing. The process was slow because I was learning along the way, but I now use both business and marketing plans as daily road maps to guide my actions. One of the easier and fun parts of the first few months – for me, was working with a designer to create a logo, business cards, stationery, brochure and Web site.

I also started networking – an activity that never ceases. There are many organizations to join. The trick is figuring out which ones to choose. I finally decided on being involved with a half a dozen organizations, which can either bring me business or help me learn more about building my business or both.

One of the activities I worked on for months was my “elevator pitch,” which is answering the question, “What do you do?” so the listener understands and is interested. Now when people ask, I say, “I have a human resources consulting firm. We help organizations choose and grow talented people. And we help individuals choose and grow great careers.”

I also spent a lot of time creating processes to make my business run like a well-oiled machine. I have processes for making sales calls, following up, writing proposals and evaluating the results of the work I do.

In addition, two wonderful students contacted me this year, both of whom wanted to work with me as interns to learn my business and to help them with their careers. Having two interns adds supervisory and coaching time, but their ideas and enthusiasm has paid off. In fact, my business tag line, Know-how. Right now, came out of a meeting in which the three of us reviewed my marketing plan.

At a networking meeting, a colleague suggested that I consider joining the Women’s Business Development Center. After looking into it, I had my business certified as a women’s business enterprise. In addition to meeting other women business owners, I gained access to a member directory of businesses that are interested in doing business with women business owners.

For me, the biggest risk of starting my own business was financial. I went from a steady paycheck to a roller coaster ride of payments. Before starting my business, I sat down with my family and asked for their support to ride out the slow months. My husband and youngest child were supportive; my teenager who loves new clothes and CDs, etc, needed convincing. But since my teenager is just a few years away from college and making her own career decisions, I see my move as a way to show her how to live your dreams.

The rewards are significant. I am passionate about what I do. For all every business decision, I get to decide. My newfound freedom has unleashed my creative talents. And there is new meaning in what I do. My advice after my first year: If you are passionate about a business idea, knuckle down and go for it!

Global Manufacturers Grab Laptops for Gaming Opportunity

5 08 2008

As of late, gaming laptops were normally custom made by special retailers. Although they weren’t amazing sellers they did have good mark ups. The most sought after notebooks were the ones that were too costly to speculate purchasing. They were like the ultimate of what was possible with laptop technology. The best laptops on offer. As much as I desired one I was unable to afford to buy laptops like them. As bigger manufacturers see the potential in the gaming notebook sector, things looks to have altered. Just imagine how much cash these big brands could be producing especially when employing their economies of scale. This would be one of the few profit producing lines they have as they make nothing on numerous others because of the overwhelming competition. Local system builders are unable compete with them in convincing us to buy laptops. In my view this would extremely hurt smaller resellers if they don’t separate themselves. I say this because now the technology which was once premium and high priced is now mass market. I believe buying from an established brand also provides the perception of increased value.

The notebooks are surprisingly extremely good too. I still believe that 2nd tier companies will take away significant inspiration from this. I reckon people that get these types of laptops prefer to be able to configure their notebook. Normally a lot of comparisons of the tech specs will be done and the tech savvy can see what the better laptop really is. The details are of great importance for this kind of purchaser.

From a consumer position this is all a great thing. When it comes down to it the cost will go down more and more people will be able to purchase such new technology. Don’t take my word for it though as other things could occur in the laptop computer market. New systems are always being launched and these new systems always demand high prices. Even though I still guess things will be good because of the saturating market, we’ll have to watch.
