Good Business in Bad Economy for Mobile Broadband Service Providers
11 02 2009January and February is the time of the year when the companies release their fourth quarter results along with their annual performance report. This year, even amidst economic slump, mobile broadband communication providers are posting good results. O2, a Telefonica company, in a press conference announced that they are expecting good Q4 2008 results.
Prior to O2’s expected results release, Vodafone, on Tuesday, released their fourth quarter results, registering a 14% rise in their gross revenue. The company also saw their customer base increase by 449,000 in the
CEO of Telefonica, Matthew Key, stated that they have been posting good results consistently and in view of Vodafone’s good results, they expect their performance to be good as well. Furthermore, Mr. Key asserted that his company is aware of the fact that customers these days are looking for more value oriented services and are hesitant to enrol for long-term services.
The good results for O2 mobile broadband in the mobile broadband communication segment are likely to be mainly due to growth in data services. Additionally, high performance 3G handsets and mobile broadband services have given good reasons to customers to spend. In a recently held poll, O2 ranked top in customer satisfaction for providing impeccable mobile broadband services. The company has now tied up with Samsung to launch new laptop bundles in 2009.
