**Your Product – Is There Demand?

Simple & quick ways to ascertain if demand for your product or service is present before taking steps to create it.

1. Use Nichebot (http://www.nichebot.com/) & Word Tracker (http://www.wordtracker.com) to research your keywords and get an idea of competition.

2. After choosing your keyword/s, do a search on Google and see how many “adwords” (right hand side of the screen) advertisements appear.

Click on these ads to see “exactly what” they are selling. Are they selling a product the same or similar to yours and at what price? Set up an excel file and check the same keywords over a two week period, who’s advert stays and who’s drops off?

It is best to change your Google ‘preferences’ to show 100 search findings to examine the ads more easily.

3. Set up your own free Adwords account (https://adwords.google.com/select/) and see what amounts are being bid for your given keyword.

1. Do a search for your keywords on Overture (http://www.content.overture.com/d/). Under the top search result click on “sponsored linking” and then click the “view bids tool”.

This will give you the prices of all bids. In general a higher price means that there is much competition and demand for that keyword and product.

2. Start asking questions on forums associated with your business and product. Does anyone own similar products, what was good about the product or bad, improvements that could be made and so on?

3. Get a survey done.

4. Write a short email course, set-up a website and get traffic to the site using Adwords. At the end of the course get subscribers to fill out a survey stating whether they would find your new product useful and if they would purchase it.

**Product – Service Production

This is part is straight forward really. Being that it’s your own product, you should already know how to produce it or least some idea.

I will say that if you are writing an ebook, by far the easiest method is to produce it in Microsoft “word” or similar and then convert it into “Pdf” using Adobe Acrobat 7.

**Setting Up

Again, setting up your website, domain name, etc can be done quite easily and inexpensively.

**Testing

You must split test! This simply means to test different parts of your sales copy, headings, pictures, price that is on your sales page to achieve the highest sales percentages (website hits to sales).

At this stage though you have a choice!

You can split test your product by driving clients to your site using “paid methods” such as Adwords (https://adwords.google.com/select/).

Or

You can start building traffic to your site and then test with free traffic.

Or

The best option, do both at the same time!

Let me make this very clear. Testing can and does make & break many businesses!

Have you ever visited a web site and noticed the “Site Map” button jammed somewhere near the bottom of the page? Ever click on it? Probably not. So, why do sites have site maps?

The Site Map – Very Important

In the old days of the net [about three years ago], experts proclaimed every site should have a site map. From their ivory tower, they proclaimed the site map as the extraordinary method to assure potential customers could easily navigate the site and find what they needed. Once they found it, they would buy it and you would be rich, rich, rich!

As is typical with such universally accepted proclamations, this one was wrong. Anyone remotely paying attention to server statistics realized very few people were visiting site maps. The proclamation stopped being shouted and evolved into criticisms of sites which still have site maps. These criticisms, of course, also miss the mark.

HTML site maps are archaic. Visitors to your site will almost never use them. You may even forget you have one. You will certainly forget to update it as often as you should. Still, the site map is a critical component of the site.

The first thing to realize is there is a specific purpose for having a site map. The purpose is to make it is as simple as possible for search engine robots to crawl your site. The more pages indexed by the search engines, the better off you are.

To create a site map, just make a page with the meta tag of “site map”. Add hyperlinked text to each fulcrum page of the site. A fulcrum page is simply a gateway page to a particular section of the site. For example, you may have a centralized article page with links to each article. The centralized article page is a fulcrum page and should be included on the site map. Once completed, make sure that every page you want included in the search engine has a hyperlinked text headline on at least one of the fulcrum pages.

A quick word about Google. Google has a new xml feature you can use for a site map. You can use it or forgo it as you see fit. Still, make sure to make an html site map for the other search engines.

Once you have the site map page up, don’t wait for the search engine robots to find it. Publish the link in an article byline or blog as soon as possible. Within a week or so, you should see pages from your site being added to the search engine indexes. This is true for Google even if you don’t use the xml site map tool.

Those of us who have had a website or a blog for a while know that quality and original content are the best way to increase rankings and traffic from search engines. Or we should know, since it is written in almost every article dealing with increasing a website’s popularity.

If you think about it, it’s common sense. What do you want from a website you decide to visit? Quality! Whether we talk about products, services or information. And for those of us running websites meant to help others [put whatever you wish here - in my case, make money online] quality of information is probably the most important aspect of one’s website. You could have the most attractive design a website could have, if people don’t find useful and quality information, off they go and never will you see them again. More than that, they might “recommend” you to others as a place one should not waste time with.

For those who own a website about something they have good knowledge of, by all means go ahead and write your own original content. If you think you’re not good at writing, you have two options. Option number one is hiring a writer to do all the work. You tell him/her what you want the article(s) to be about, give him/her the information you want included in the article and then send him/her to work. Of course this costs money. If you don’t have the money for a professional writer, then – option number two – search the internet for articles and free e-books who teach people to write. And believe me, it is not something you can never learn. Don’t think you have to be Shakespeare for people to read your stuff, find it interesting and come back for more. As long as you know what to write about, all you have to learn are some basic guidelines that make your article easy to read and understandable. Trust me, if a construction worker can do it, so can you.

By writing your own articles you could solve the first problem – “Quality of Articles”. As for the second one, it arises when we think about one of the most recommended ways of increasing “natural inbound links” and “quality traffic” to your website: submitting your articles to directories (thus increasing chances of people finding them), especially to those allowing others to republish them. Once such happens, you bump into the problem of “Duplicate Content” which is something search engines don’t like. And for a good reason. Why would they send people to a website which has the same content as hundreds if not thousands of others? This will negatively influence your website (or blog) once others start publishing your articles on their own pages.

So what is one to do?

Well, one of the solutions suggested by those who posted commentaries to Darren’s article is to submit your articles to directories in a slightly different version. This way you can avoid your website being categorized as “Duplicate Content” while increasing inbound links and quality traffic (both from those who read your article and are curious what else you have to offer them as well as from search engines who will start giving your website more importance as a result of many others linking to it – in a natural way).

What happens if your website focuses on a topic you don’t have too much knowledge about. Why would you have such a website? some might ask. Well, a lot of people build websites about helping others make money online when they don’t have that much experience in the field themselves. A lot of successful websites about this topic started in such a way. Including mine. Whatever your case may be, the question is: how can you offer quality content on a topic you don’t know too much about? You do some reading and you find out there are plenty of free articles you can publish on your website or blog. And it seems that almost everybody does it. So why not you?

You could, but before you decide to do so, think about the problems raised by Darren: “Quality of Articles” and “Duplicate Content”.

Well, quality is not so hard to figure: use your common sense; find other articles about the same topic and see if they say pretty much the same thing; find webmasters who are experts in the field and ask for their opinion; visit forums and ask people to read the article and tell you their opinion, or whatever other way comes to mind.

The problem comes with “Duplicate Content”! What I suggest you do is read more articles about the same topic and come up with your own. Don’t get me wrong. I definitely do not recommend you brake any copyrighting laws. What I am trying to say is that by reading more articles on the same topic, it should be quite easy to form your own opinion (agree or disagree with different things said in various articles), put it down in your computer and then up on your website. To make your life a little easier, some suggest to even use quotes from different articles. It’s up to you. As you can see, it pretty much comes down to writing your own original good quality articles.

I don’t want anybody to think I am completely against publishing other people’s articles. If you take some time to visit the rest of my website, you will realize I have a good deal of articles belonging to others. I mean, if I find a good one I am convinced would be of use to my visitors, I will, by all means, publish it, without worrying too much about search engines and their “Duplicate Content” policies. What do they know? :) Just don’t get carried away!

Use your common sense and imagination to find original ways to get good, original content for your website/blog and avoid being labeled as “duplicate content”. If others can do it, so can you!

web sites. Should you make your own web site? One school of
thought is that you can save yourself some cash by making your
own web site, and saving some cash is always a good thing. The
other school of thought is that in order to make a top quality

basis you are going to have to invest some money in some quality
software.

You would need to purchase a web site design program like
Macromedia’s Dreamweaver and if you plan on embellishing your
web site with some of your digital photography you will need
some photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia’s
Fireworks. Even if you take fantastic pictures you will still
need to optimize them for fast loading in your customers web
browser. An unedited five megapixel photo takes up about a 19×19
inch screen and if you put two of those puppies on a web page
and your customer does not have broadband internet access they
will be nodding off before your page is viewable. And that
equals bye bye visitor.

That bring us to learning about search engines which is a
sceince unto itself. Am I using the right keywords? What are my
best keywords? Is my keyword density right? The questions are
almost limitless, definitely one of the toughest parts of the
job.

There are endless tutorials on web site design available online
as well as the tutorials that come with most software packages,
so the tools to learn to make good web sites and edit photos are
there for you as well. But wouldn’t you rather be spending your
time learning about the industry you have devoted your life to
and making certain every customer that leaves your establishment
leaves with a smile? My answer is you bet I would.

I could easily run down to my kitchen every morning and get out
my flour and eggs and bake myself a loaf of bread so I can have
some toast, but since the bakery does a great job and gives me
