Minneapolis Houses Famous Mall
11 04 2009Very rarely do two major cities develop in close proximity to one another. Usually there’s a good deal of distance between two major metropolitan areas. However, if you ever have the chance to visit Minnesota, you’ll find two unique cities right across the river from one another: St. Paul and Minneapolis.
If you’re not familiar with Minneapolis, Minnesota, you may want to review your knowledge of great television shows. Minneapolis, I’m sure you remember, is the home of the Mary Tyler Moore show, and she’s walking down a Minneapolis street when she throws her hat into the air and declares she’s ready to turn on the world with a smile. That moment is so important to Minneapolis that the city actually erected a statue to celebrate it, capturing the iconic moment forever. You can find it on the Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis.
You can also find the Mall of America when you visit Minneapolis. It’s the largest indoor mall in America, and it has everything – including an indoor amusement park. Even cooler, it was built on the site of the old Metropolitan Stadium, and the mall acknowledges its history. While you’re walking around, make sure you check out the floor. If you’re observant enough, you’ll find the Old Met’s home plate imbedded in the tiles. Once you find it, you can stand at the plate, pretending to stare down Sandy Koufax in the ‘65 World Series.
Minneapolis is a great city. Make sure you check out all it has to offer.
